CLAY AFFECTION

This is the foundational course to start off your relationship with clay. You'll learn basic techniques of pinching, hollowing, slab building and coiling to transform humble a lump of clay into desirable form. When your maiden ceramic art pieces emerge from the kiln in beautiful form, texture and colors, you'll experience your first Aha! moment of your pottery journey.

What You'll Takeaway

Basic know-how and skills to express yourself in basic clay forms using the techniques learned. You get to take home 5-6 pcs of artworks at the end of this course.

Pottery Intermediate

CLAY AFFAIR

Clay AFFAIR builds on your foundational skills to deepen your love affair with clay through a wider repertoire of hand-building techniques. You'll learn how to shape the clay more intimately. You'll also play with different clay bodies such as stoneware, earthenware and white raku, and sense each of their characteristic feel and texture. Creative freedom is emphasized, with close guidance provided towards your progress.

Appreciate a wider range of techniques and different clay bodies, from which you can develop your choice approach to your own style of pottery. .

CLAY DANCE I

Clay DANCE is an intermediate course that follows naturally after Clay AFFAIR. You'll get a lot more serious with clay and learn the amazing throwing technique. Throwing on a potter’s wheel and seeing a lump of clay rising up like a suave dancer is absolutely sensual and therapeutic. You will learn how to express your heart through the control of your hands to breathe life into clay. Starting from basics of preparing clay to throwing cylinders and modify them to new open forms, you will achieve a strong foundation to move forward to march ahead to bigger forms.

Pottery Advanced

CLAY DANCE II

A recommended course after Clay DANCE I, where you move to more complex forms to enhance and bring up your skill to another level. From here you would start your higher explorative journey towards mastering the skills on a potter’s wheel.

Once you have mastered centering and cylindrical forms, this course will upgrade you to next step of throwing wider and bigger. You will also learn to make double walled pot and a tea pot on the potter’s wheel.

Course after this: Clay SCULPTURE

CLAY SCULPTURE (Abstract)

This is an exciting new course on Ceramic Sculpture taught by Teacher Chew Seow Phuang. Sculpture brings you into a whole new world of bold expression with 3D forms, shape and contour, texture and colours. There'll be lots of hand moulding, shaping and going with the flow of your inspiration.

Prerequisite: you must have foundational pottery grounding (i.e. Clay AFFECTION + AFFAIR) prior to attending this course. Having Clay DANCE throwing skill is highly desirable.

Innovative techniques for creative free-form sculpting with clay.

PAPERCLAY I

After exploring the sculptural form, it’s time to explore and understand a new medium to control the form and timeline. Paperclay is any clay with processed cellulose fibres, paper being the most common, added but it changes the schematics of sculpting. Its unique dry-dry and wet-dry joining property offers a whole new dimension of creativity and exciting possibilities.

PAPERCLAY II

Armed with basic skills, you'll be guided to design and hand-build 4 sculptures of your own expression using paperclay. You'll be encouraged to push the boundary of possibilities so as to fully appreciate the versatility of paperclay.
